Restorative Nursing Assistant (RNA) Course: The RNA (Restorative Nursing Assistant) program provides CNA's (Certified Nursing Assistants) the knowledge and skills to advance their career in long term care. This is a (16) hour two day course consisting of lecture and lab in the classroom is only an authorized course for Certified Nurse Assistant. The curriculum includes lecture and demonstration followed by a skill review for each student. The purpose of the course is to give CNA's comprehensive training in the rehabilitative process to become RNA's. The course describes the rehab team, detailed instruction on the various conditions which affect rehab residents, and the basic care and specialized handling procedures that facilitate resident recovery and maximize caregiver efficiency.
NOTE: TO ENSURE A SPOT IN THE COURSE REGISTER IN ADVANCE. MUST BE A CNA WITH AN ACTIVE CNA LICENSE.
Intended Audience: Our two day Basic (RNA) and Advanced (RNP) courses are designed to help CNA's, RA's, LVN's and RN's new skills or gain confidence in their existing skills. Students will learn to care for residents who have completed a therapy program or who benefit from participation in a restorative program. The Restorative Nursing Aide Course is designed for entry level to experienced CNA's currently working in a skilled nursing setting. The class is also beneficial to RN's with oversight of an RNA program. 16 NAC credits are available. NOTE- Must be a current CNA, RA, LVN, RN in order to get a completion certificate.
Prerequisites: Students MUST be a current CNA, an LVN, or an RN in order to participate in the course. There are no refunds or transfers for students that signup and realize they no longer need the course, or do not meet the pre-requisites. Course Materials: A Restorative Nurse Assistant participant book will be provided to students enrolled in course. Students are to wear comfortable scrubs, bring a gait belt, and wear athletic shoes.
Course Format/Certification: The format is lecture, demonstration, and practice. There is a final test (written) to reinforce the most important techniques discussed. There is time allotted for Q & A. The class is not certified, however it is an approved continuing education unit course by the CA Department of Public Health for 16 CEU's. The RNA Course is offered at our Turlock Education Center, our students are from Merced, Atwater, Hughson, Oakdale, Sonora, Ceres, Modesto, Patterson, Los Banos, Tracy, Manteca, Stockton, Sacramento and the Bay area. Course Hours and Content: Participants will learn how to assist patients to reach their maximum mobility potential, range of motion, strengthening exercise, ambulating, and transferring techniques, activities for daily living, restorative feeding programs, and documentation. Course in Restorative Nurse Assistant covers (16) hours of theory and other practical applications of restorative techniques in the following information: 1.) Overview of Restorative Nursing Program 2.) Medical Overview 3.) Define the role of rehabilitation services in the skilled nursing setting. 4.) Define role of the Restorative Aide on the rehab team. 5.) Describe the care of stroke patients and feeding. 6.) Describe care of the hip fracture patient. 7.) Describe the care for compound fractures. 8.) Describe care of the arthritic patient. 9.) Describe interventions for Parkinson's Disease. 10.) Demonstrate correct posture and body mechanics when mobilizing patients. 11.) Demonstrate proper positioning seating, ROM exercises & gait assistance. 12.) Demonstrate proper transfer techniques & proper transfer techniques. 13.) Demonstrate ADL skills. 14.) Proper documentation
Career Opportunities: Our Education Center does NOT guarantee job placement, we only provide the necessary skills and knowledge. Restorative Nursing Assistants can find employment in nursing homes, assisted living communities and long term facilities.
Course Completion Certificate: Our Education Center provides an RNA course completion certificate valid for 16-hours.
